Why not our national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Rabindranath Tagore? Whose contribution is more for Bengali language?

Rabindranath Tagore is an Indian poet. Kazi Nazrul Islam is also an Indian poet. Kazi Nazrul Islam did not take Bangladeshi citizenship of his own free will. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman could not find a poet for the new country. Those who did not deserve to be national poets. There was no public appeal. Only two Indian poets, Rabindranath and Nazrul, were universally accepted, poets. Of these two, Rabindranath died before Bangladesh was born.

Nazrul’s condition was very bad when Sheikh Mujib brought Nazrul to Bangladesh by force. Rabindranath was a Brahmin Hindu. Nazrul was a Muslim by name but in reality a Hindu Muslim. He was probably an atheist poet inside. A class of people used to slander the poet like infidels, apostates, polytheists, pimps of infidels etc. The main reason for making him a national poet was that he was a rebellious poet. He is called a rebellious poet as he fought for the independence of India against the British.

Rabindranath Tagore was also anti-British. He opposed the British government by taking a stand against the secession of East Bengal from India through his poem ‘Amar Sonar Bangla’ but he did not tolerate jail oppression like Nazrul.

Bangladesh’s War of Independence or Liberation War was an armed revolt against Pakistani evil forces, so Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared Kazi Nazrul Islam, the rebel poet of India, as the national poet of Bangladesh, but before that, the sick poet was brought to Bangladesh and given Bangladeshi citizenship.
